Orgnazation’s Visions & Goals

At the core of our mission, we envision a world where regions scarred by the ravages of war, refugee camps, and villages impacted by man-made or natural disasters can flourish in peace and harmony. Our goal is to create environments where every individual, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the fundamental necessities of life, including food, shelter, clothing, and more.

Our vision extends beyond mere relief efforts to a future where rehabilitation and sustainable development become the pillars of resilience for communities in need. By successfully implementing programs that rebuild both resources and human capacities, we aim to foster self-sufficiency and empowerment. Together, we strive to transform adversity into opportunity, cultivating a world where every person can lead a life of dignity and purpose.

Organization History

Wadi Howar International Relief and Development (WHIRD) emerged in late 2017 as a dynamic subsidiary under the umbrella of the Zaghawa People's Association of U.S.A Inc. (ZPA of USA), which had been officially incorporated in the state of Indiana in January 2016. Born out of the collective vision and commitment of the ZPA of USA, WHIRD was conceived to address the urgent needs of communities in eastern Chad and western Sudan regions, specifically in Dar Zaghawa.

The name "Wadi Howar" holds profound significance, translating to "Howar Valley" in English. This vast valley, situated in eastern Chad and western Sudan, borders Egypt and Libya to the northwest. Characterized by its arid, hot, and desert terrain, Wadi Howar is a challenging environment where water is scarce, and the resilient nomadic tribes of the Zaghawa call it home.

In mid-2017, during the annual ZPA of USA celebration, the visionary idea of establishing WHIRD was introduced, and it swiftly materialized into reality. The ZPA board members spearheaded the initiative, ensuring all necessary bylaws were in place for WHIRD to evolve into an international non-profit organization. By the year's end, WHIRD was officially registered as a subsidiary under ZPA of the USA.

The inaugural board of directors for WHIRD, comprising 15 dedicated volunteers chosen by the ZPA of USA board, played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for Wadi Howar's mission. This pioneering board navigated the intricate legal processes, established a comprehensive short and long-term roadmap, and outlined a visionary strategy for the organization.

WHIRD's ambitious projects were meticulously crafted to address the diverse needs of the communities it aimed to serve:

  1. Pure Water: Ensuring access to clean and safe water through the construction of wells and sustainable water solutions.

  2. Food Security and Livelihood: Combating malnutrition and enhancing livelihoods for sustainable community development.

  3. Livestock: Supporting responsible livestock practices to bolster economic stability within communities.

  4. Educational Opportunities: Providing access to quality education and skill-building programs for personal and professional growth.

  5. Social and Economical Reintegration: Facilitating the seamless reintegration of individuals into society by addressing social and economic challenges.

  6. Environmental Protection: Implementing initiatives for environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

  7. Healthcare: Building and supporting health infrastructure to ensure the delivery of essential healthcare services.

  8. Disability and Special Needs Services: Creating inclusive programs to address the unique needs of individuals with disabilities.

  9. Women Empowerment: Advocating for equal opportunities and empowerment across all aspects of life for women.

From its humble beginnings focused on Dar Zaghawa, WHIRD set its sights on a global scale, aiming to extend its impactful programs worldwide. The journey of WHIRD is a testament to the resilience, dedication, and collaborative spirit that define its commitment to transforming lives and communities.
